James R. Fixico, 75, of Shawnee, Formerly of Choctaw, passed away Friday, August 7, 2026, at the Saint Francis Medical Center of Tulsa.

“J.R.” was born October 26, 1950, at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Alexander and Edna Mae (Harjo) Fixico. He was reared and educated in McLoud and later attended Rose State College. J.R. proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He married Judith “Judy” Beasley in 1970, at the McLoud Pentecostal Holiness Church. The couple made their home in McLoud and Choctaw while raising their sons, but lived in Sulphur, Tulsa, and Midwest City before settling in Shawnee. J.R. worked for Safeway stores for 15 years before taking classes and started to work in the Human Resources department of Office of American Farmers and Ranchers Insurance Company for over 20 years. He retired in 2010.

J.R. and Judy loved to spend time in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and Branson, Missouri. He loved to play softball, golf and go fishing. He spent many hours working in his yard and tending to his garden. He was also a devoted Texas Rangers, OU, and OKC Thunder fan. But his wife and grandchildren were his greatest passion. Finally, J.R. was a great lover of dogs, including beloved pets, Paisley and Brandy.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Judy; and sister, Patricia Hubbard.
