Obituary

John Melvil “Jack” Smith, Jr., 80, of Oklahoma City, passed Monday, July 13th, 2026. Jack was born April 26th, 1946, in Hinton, Ok. He graduated from Choctaw High School. He worked nearly 30 years for Rainbow Bread. He married Mary Lou Mathis on May 12, 1984, in Nicoma Park. The couple lived in Harrah for 25 years before moving to SE Oklahoma City. He was a member of the Nicoma Park Church of Christ.

Jack loved to be outdoors. His favorite hobbies were bird & deer hunting and fishing with all his friends. He also loved to work in his garden with his tractor and spent hours in his shop. He kept in touch with his Rainbow bread coworkers, and they met every month for breakfast after retirement. Jack loved spending time with his grandkids. Whether exploring the outdoors, traveling together, playing board games, or simply enjoying time talking.

He cherished the life he shared with his beloved wife, enjoying traveling, relaxing days at the lake, searching for treasures at estate sales, and taking pride in caring for their property side by side. They were married for 42 wonderful years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vivian & John Smith, brothers Harold, Howard and David; and sisters Delice & Doris.

His survivors include his wife, Mary Lou, children Greg Smith of Jones, Johnna Smith of Moore, step-son & daughter in-law Mark and Kathy Vinson of Newcastle; several grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 20th, 2026, at the Asa Smith Funeral Chapel of Harrah. Burial will follow in the Jamison Cemetery of McLoud.

Arrangements are under the care of Asa Smith Funeral Services of Harrah. Online condolences may be made at www.asasmith.net
