Obituary

Karen Elizabeth Heffley, 80, of Harrah, passed away, on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at her residence. Karen was born May 20, 1946, in Guilford, North Carolina, to Edison Edward Marshall and Harriet Elizabeth (Johnson) Marshall. Karen’s parents divorced during her youth, and She moved to the Oklahoma City area with her mother and brother. Karen graduated from John Marshall High School in 1964. At about that same time, her mother married the widowed Ray Browning. Karen considered Ray her father due to their close relationship. She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Nazarene in different communities but also enjoyed services at Harrah Church. Karen married Chester Daniel Heffley in 1965. The couple had two children Karen “Danielle” and Kenneth. Shortly after Kenneth’s birth, the couple divorced, and Karen moved from their home in Dallas to Choctaw. She moved again to Enid for a few years before moving to Harrah in 1974. She opened Karen’s Bookkeeping in 1975. Karen’s Bookkeeping later changed to Heffley’s Bookkeeping. She bought the local trash collecting company in 1990 and renamed it Harrah Disposal. Karen was a member of the old Harrah Kiwanis Club and was recently named an honorary lifetime member with the recently reformed Harrah Kiwanis chapter. Karen has also served on the Harrah Park’s board and was involved with the planning of the Harrah Heritage Park. Karen was instrumental in the planning and coordination of so many Harrah Day festivities. She has served as the Harrah Day Parade Marshal on multiple occasions. Karen was also a vital member of the Harrah Chamber of Commerce for decades. Karen stayed very active in Harrah attending all social and charitable events in the community. Karen also sponsored local little league and Harrah School sports. In the 1990’s Karen was in charge of the local Miss Harrah pageants as well.

Karen was a loyal Oklahoma City Thunder fan. She was a season ticket holder from their inaugural season until the moment of her passing. She was also a diehard fan of the Oklahoma Sooners.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edison, Harriett, and Ray, her daughter Danielle and great grandchild Gage.

Survivors include a son Kenneth and wife Misty Heffley of McLoud; brother Edward and wife Pam Marshall of Hilton Head, South Carolina; sister Tina Marir Marshall of Berthoud, Colorado; grandchildren Cristina Walker, Kenneth Rance Heffley, Jesse Shane Heffley, Tyler Darton Heffley, Sari Nicole Heffley and Kellen Walker; great-grandchildren Cameron Blake, Gunner Maust, Cris Walker, and Hunter Walker.

The casket will be open for friends from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Asa Smith Funeral Service. Funeral Services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, at the Harrah Church on Dobbs and Reno. Burial will follow in the Memory Lane Cemetery of Harrah.
