Harrah

Edwin Alex Howard (Scotty), 89, Longtime resident of Harrah, passed away, June 5, 2025, peacefully at his son’s home in Oklahoma City.

He was born June 21, 1935, in Concho, Oklahoma to Joseph and Emily (Holloway) Howard. He was reared and educated in several small towns in Kansas before joining the United States Navy at the age of 17. He traveled the world serving on many vessels including the USS Midway (CVA-41) aircraft carrier and the heavy destroyer USS Toledo (CA-133).

At an early age Scotty developed a love of music, mostly country and bluegrass. He would listen to the Grand Ole Opry and learned to play the guitar at the age of 8. He played and sang many songs that would delight friends and family throughout his life. He recorded an album in 1967 of original songs written by him. The album is titled Scotty Howard and the Country Caravan. The album can be found on iTunes and Spotify, and at any given time, you can find 8-10 copies available on eBay from all around the world. Having his album available on these platforms gave Scotty great joy in his latter years. He has had many bands over the years and has sung and played his guitar and Dobro all over the United States and around the world. He even had the opportunity to become a staff musician on the Grand Ole Opry.

He moved to Harrah in 1977, with his wife, Cora Claudine (Jones) and family. His wife passed from cancer in March of 1987, and oldest daughter Sheila Ann (Howard) Kirk died in 1994, also from cancer. He married Tommie Lou in 1988 and gained a daughter in the process. Scotty loved the Harrah community. He was an avid member of the Harrah Historical Society and the VFW Post 1188 of Harrah. He had fond memories of working with the people at the Historical Society, entertaining the people of Harrah and at the Harrah Theater.

Along with his wife, and daughter, Scotty is also preceded in death by his parents, siblings and stepdaughter Elisabeth Bombe.
