Ida Mae Byers

Ida Mae Byers, 90, of Harrah, Oklahoma, passed from this world in the morning hours of Thursday, September 4, 2025, at home with her son, Ronnie, by her side. Ida Byers (Locust) was born on August 2, 1935, to Josh (Duda) Locust and Lucy Locust (Beaver) of Vian, Oklahoma. She was the 3rd of 8 children. She graduated from Sequoyah School in 1954.

After graduation, Ida married her brother’s friend, Edward Byers, on October 22, 1955. The pair welcomed four children into their home. Ronnie, Brenda, Edward Jr. (Bo), and Patricia (Pitsie). The joy of their life was watching their kids and grandkids grow up, play ball, and build their families. Ida worked at Russell Babb Elementary School in Harrah. She had always said that she had to keep an eye on her grandkids, and the best way to watch over them was to work at the school. She decided it was time to retire when her grandkids started graduating high school in 1995.

Ida is preceded in death by her parents, Josh and Lucy Locust, her husband Edward Byers, her son Edward (Bo) Byers Jr., and her brothers and sisters Tom Locust, Elsie Locust, Josh Locust Jr., Hopeful Locust, Mickey Locust, and Dessie (Lell) Locust

Ida is survived by her son, Ronnie Byers of Harrah, OK; 2 daughters and sons-in-law: daughter Brenda & Randy Holbrook of Choctaw, OK; and daughter Patricia & Charles Henkel of Harrah, OK; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, 24 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends
