Mary Ellen Parsons Lanie, 90, of Edmond passed from this life to her rewards and a joyous reunion with friends and family in Heaven on May 18, 2025, in Oklahoma City.
Mary was born in Blackwell, OK, attended schools there and graduated from Blackwell High School. She married her high school sweetheart William J. (Bill) Lanie in February 1953. They celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary before Bill preceded her in death in January 2014.
Mary worked in personnel management for Allied Supermarkets and John A. Brown Co. before retiring from Conoco, Inc., after 10 years as contract administrator.
She attended Master Gardener training after retirement and enjoyed being involved in their activities as well as working in her own gardens and green house.
She and Bill particularly enjoyed traveling and they visited more than 25 countries and lived in Indonesia for three years while he was working there. She was a long-time member of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Harrah, OK. After Bill’s passing, she moved to Edmond to Lyndale Independent Living Center (formerly Copper Lake Estates) where she lived until her passing.
She is preceded in death by her husband Bill; her parents Robert and Ioleean Parsons; and a brother and sister-in-law Alfred and Ione Parsons.
Survivors include her children: Diane Marie and husband Jeff Mackay of Piedmont; Julie Ann and husband David Chapman of Edmond; grandchildren: Stephanie Mackay Boyd and husband Phillip, Emily Mackay Stroup and husband Tobey, Jennifer Chapman and Ryan and wife Morgan Chapman; five great-grandchildren, Paisley Stroup, Mackaylen and Layken Stroup, Ben and Bodie Boyd; and brother in law and sister in law Steve and Sharon Lanie.
Mass of Christian burial will be Friday, May 23, 2025, at 1 p.m. at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 1576 Tim Holt Drive, Harrah, OK. Interment will follow at St. Teresa Cemetery under direction of Asa Smith Funeral Service.
