Thomas Gordon Barnes, aka Tom, Tommy or “Poppy” to some, 75, passed away July 26th, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Tom was born to Opal and John Barnes in Purcell, Oklahoma, and lived in Harrah for the last 42 Years. Tom was known for his generous heart, hard work ethic, and his unwavering faith. After retiring from General Motors in 2006 Tom spent his time keeping his hands busy, creating beautiful tile work in his home as well as many others, keeping his lawn in perfect condition, or chasing his 4 granddaughters he and his wife raised.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice, his children Dawn, Justin, and Amy, his sisters, Joyce, Norma, and Yvonne, his beloved grandchildren Jessi, Jodi, Casey, Kelsi, Van, Coy, Claire, Kylie, Courtney, and Ethan, as well as 7 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Opal and John Barnes and brother Johnny.
Tom loved to fish, play guitar, do yard work, play cards and spend time with the ones he loved the most. His impact on the people around him will never be forgotten.
The Rosary will be recited Friday, August 8th at 6:00pm at St. Teresa Catholic Church of Harrah, A Wake will follow with memorial video in the hall.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday August 9th at 10:00am at the church with a luncheon following also at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church in Harrah OK. Burial is scheduled for 4:00pm later that day at St John’s Catholic Cemetery in Lexington, OK.
